Kurt Cobain’s Destroyed Guitar for Sale

Kurt Cobain’s Destroyed Guitar for Sale

An abused Kurt Cobain guitar will be soon auctioned off by Gotta Have It! Collectibles, with a starting price of $50,000. The instrument was used by Nirvana’s lead singer in the band’s 1993 “In Utero” tour and was smashed by him repeatedly as the audience was cheering wildly.

Still in its “original” condition (the way Cobain left it), the guitar is a much coveted piece of memorabilia among rock music lovers. Scratched, chipped and broken in two separate pieces, the left-handed Stratocaster was also drilled into by the frantic artist. The winning bidder will get the guitar, the drill that Cobain used on stage and a DVD of the show in which he destroyed the instrument, plus pictures of him in the act.

The guitar was temporarily mended for other performances on the In Utero tour, which means that the winning bidder will also have the possibility to repair it again and actually make it completely functional. Pre-sale estimates for the guitar say that the winning bid will probably be around $70,000, but the price could go even higher, depending on the bidders’ determination to put their hands on the special lot.
