Jeff Koons’ Pink Panther Might Set a New Record at Sotheby’s

Jeff Koons' Iconic Pink Panther Sculpture (3)

It’s not the first time that Jeff Koons amazes with incredibly expensive creations, but at the upcoming Sotheby’s Spring Sale of Contemporary Art auction, he will probably set a new record for himself. His famous Pink Panther sculpture is expected to raise between $20 and $30 million. His most expensive piece until now was sold in 2008 for $25.7 million. It was the immense Balloon Flower (Magenta).

The Pink Panther will be put up for auction on May 10, and we expect many contemporary art lovers to fight for it. The piece is part of the artist’s famous Banality series, and is the proof of an edition of three. The other two examples can bee seen at the Museum of Art in New York and at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago.

Other significant works of Jeff Koons, that sold for mind-boggling amounts of money, are the Blue Diamond, which fetched $11.8 million in 2005, and the Hanging Heart which went for $23,6 million. The porcelain panther hugging a topless blonde is not as shiny as the artist’s other expensive works, but it is equally valuable, no doubt about that.
