When Roger Moore played James Bond in “Live and Let Die” (1973), he wore a very special timepiece that “rescued” him on several different occasions, with its incorporated advanced technologies. Now, the watch is ready to find a new owner. Christie’s will sell the Rolex 5513 Submariner at an auction in Geneva next month.
There were three memorable scenes in the movie, in which the special wristwatch was involved: the one where the buzz-saw bezel freed Bond and Solitaire (Jane Seymour) by cutting off the ties, the one where the hyper intensified magnetic field generator inside the watch stopped a bullet, and another one where the same magnetic field helped Bond unzip Madeline Smith’s dress, without even touching it.
The watch still has its original bracelet and the special buzz-saw bezel, but it also carries the proof that the hyper magnetic field was in fact never real: a pinhole from which a fine thread was connected to Smith’s dress zipper to help the secret agent pull it down. Presale estimates for this special lot are between $230,000 and $450,000.
