Eskimo Mask Auctioned off for $4.6 Million

Yes, that’s right. This wooden decoration was considered precious enough to sell for a whopping $4.6 million in Manhattan, at the Winter Antiques Show. Specialists say that with this price the mask might have just set a new record for Native American art.

It comes from Alaska, and is a creation of the Yup’ik Eskimos, who used the object in winter ceremonies. It had been part of a private collection for half a century, before it found a new owner willing to spend a fortune on it.
