We don’t see many mopeds in our cities nowadays, and that’s a real shame because these compact two-wheelers are perfect for daily commutes. They used to be quite popular during the 1970s but eventually fell out of grace. However, thanks to incredible advancements in the fields of batteries and electric motors, it looks like the moped has a good chance to return to our streets.
A fine example of the moped’s resurrection is the Bolt Motorbikes M1 Electric Moped, which impresses with a simple, classic design and a very modern powertrain. Its body is inspired by the mopeds of the 1970s, but its gas tank was replaced by a battery while its engine was swapped with an electric motor. Practical and versatile, this thing boasts a maximum speed of 20mph and a range of 50 miles in “Economy” mode. However, the rider can also activate “Sport” mode at the touch of a button, in which case the Bolt Motorbikes M1 Electric will reach a speed of 40mph while offering a range of 30 miles per charge.
This elegant and practical two-wheeler is currently being crowd-funded and sold as a part of a limited edition for $6,500.
