Döttling Brings Back to Life the 200-Year-Old Buonaparte Safe

An 18th century safe - The Buonaparte by Döttling (3)

Already 200 years old, The Buonaparte safe has been carefully restored and equipped to last at least 200 years more. The luxury safe designer and restorer who did this is none other than Döttling – “Finest German handcraft since 1919”. Much of the original historical elements of the vault have been preserved, including the brushed and waxed steel finish. The restoration was very meticulously carried out and it took Döttling a year and a half to complete the task.

Measuring 180 cm tall, 70 cm deep and 110cm wide, the Buonaparte is believed to come from the beginning of the 19th century, 1809 to be more exact. It bears old symbolical decorations, but this is far from being the most interesting thing about it. The vault has got a secret trick mechanism inside which offers access to a hidden compartment. This was only discovered by the restorers towards the end of the project. To access the secret compartment you have to simultaneously push tree hidden buttons. Fascinating, isn’t it?
