Christie’s Sold the New Most Expensive Photograph: $4.3M

Christie’s, the famed auction house, has recently sold the new most expensive photograph. The picture shows the Rhine River and is actually part of a 1999 edition of six photographs. Called Rhein II, it measures 73 x 143 inches. It was expected to sell for a steep price, however everyone was surprised when the bidding went as high as $4,338,500. Presale estimations were between $2,500,000 – $3,500,000. The photograph is the work of Andreas Gursky, the renowned German visual artist.
