For the 100th edition of the famous Calgary Stampede event, the organizers of “The Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth” decided to have special edition handcrafted saddles, available for purchase at hefty prices. Called the “2012 Centennial Saddles”, they were made by Vic Bennett.
The ten-day Canadian event consists of many entertaining competitions and activities, among which a horse competition, where horseback riders have the chance to test their (and their horses’) skills. The winners of the competition will receive an anniversary saddle among other items that were specially crafted to celebrate this year’s edition of the event.
Only a limited supply of 100 examples have been made, so those participants who won’t win the saddles in the competition will have to fight hard to put their hands on one. Each piece is individually autographed by saddle maker Vic Bennett and Michael Casey. They bear the logo and monogram of the event, at which the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will also be present. The anniversary saddles are priced at $5,000.
