Standing 31.19 meters high (102 feet), the huge Lego tower was built in a mall parking lot in Sao Paulo. Half a million Lego bricks were used for the record-breaking construction that soars 25 centimeters higher than the former tallest Lego tower, built six months ago in Chile. Almost 6,000 “workers” – mostly kids – combined their efforts to erect the tower, and they needed four days to complete the task.
Helping coordinate the work were several experts from Lego Denmark who have already participated at numerous similar projects. Designer Per Kjærgaard for instance has helped build towers in twenty different countries, while designer Karsten Niebuhr was part of ten other tower constructions.
Maybe you didn’t know this, but Lego towers have been built for a long time now, each one breaking the previous record. The first one was made in London in 1988 and it measured a little over 15 meters. Numerous other countries have held the record since then, including Japan, Norway, Canada, Russia, South Korea, New Zealand, the U.S., Israel and Germany.
