BMW Launches the New X5 SUV

Though not obvious at a first glance, the third generation X5 from BMW comes with quite a few changes and upgrades. The most significant of all is the introduction of the first rear-wheel drive configuration(sDrive35i) in the beautiful CUV. All-wheel-drive is also available on the list of options. The 3.0-liter, turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine delivers 300 hp and 300 lb-ft of torque, which is reportedly enough to push the car from 0 to 60 mph in just 6.2 seconds. All this with a little help from the 8-speed automatic gearbox.

The 2014 BMW X5 will also be available in anxDrive50i version, with 45 more hp than before, resulting in new output figures of 445 hp and 480 lb-ft of torque. The engine is a 4.4-liter V8 unit and it is also coupled with an 8-speed automatic transmission. Zero to sixty is accomplished in 4.9 seconds.

For those of you who prefer diesel engines, BMW is again offering its xDrive35d version, only this time it packs a little less muscle than before, without compromising on speed. With 155 hp and 413 lb-ft of torque, the engine has 10 ponies less, but the automaker promises speeds that are at least as impressive as that of the previous generation’s, if not better.
