Anonymous Person Donates a Picasso

Anonymous American donates rare Picasso painting to Sydney University

If you had a genuine Picasso, would you donate it to charity? Keep in mind the fact that the artist’s “Nude, Green Leaves and Bust”  broke the record of the most expensive work of art sold at auction when it raised a mind-boggling $106.5 million, while another famous Picasso painting called “La lecture”  sold for £25.2 million.

Many of us probably would never do it, but an anonymous person felt generous enough to donate a personal Picasso – “Jeune fille endormie” – to the University of Sydney. Te donation is meant to help the university raise money for scientific research. The painting will be auctioned off by Christie’s London on June 21. This painting, like many other Picasso creations, depicts young Marie-Therese Walter, the artist’s teenage mistress. When she and Pablo Picasso first met, he was 45 (and married) and she was only 17 years old. Their affair lasted for several years and finally led to the artist’s divorce from his wife, Olga.
