Alfred Taubman Donated $56M to the University of Michigan

Alfred Taubman, the successful real estate developer from Michigan has recently donated a whopping $56 million to the A. Alfred Taubman Medical Research Institute of the University of Michigan Health System. The institute was also created thanks to a generous donation of his: $22 million in 2007.

At this institute scientists and scholars work hard to find treatments and cures to some of the most devastating diseases in the world today: Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (or the Lou Gehrig’s disease), prostate cancer, breast cancer, childhood cancer and more.

Taubman is a U-M dropout who turned out to be a very successful businessman with an estimated net worth of $2 billion. His impressive gift is meant to help advance embryonic stem cell research at the university and thus make groundbreaking discoveries that can help eradicate the aforementioned diseases. With this donation, Taubman has now given $142 million to the University of Michigan, which means that he is now the largest single donor of the institution.
