Abramovich Pays $300 Million Less for the Eclipse

Remember when we said that Abramovich’s Eclipse mega-yacht cost him about $1 billion? We were wrong. Recent news showed a side of the story that we never would have imagined: it seems that the Russian mogul will actually pay only €340 million (some $485 million) for the yacht, and the explanation can be found in a six-years-old contract.
Blohm + Voss, the makers of the Eclipse, and Abramovich signed a contract in which it was stipulated that the billionaire would only pay this small amount of money for the vessel, even though the actual cost of the immense boat is much higher: about €570 million (or $785 million). It’s not $1.2 billion as we first heard, but it’s still $300 million more than what B+V will get. Too bad for the German manufacturer.
