10. Dalmore 64 Trinitas
“Dalmore” stands for a distillery in Scotland that sold two out of the three most expensive whisky bottles in the world. “64″ stands for 64 year old Scotch and “Trinitas” comes from the fact that there are only three such bottles of a kind. The famous Dalmore 64 Trinitas was sold at the astonishing price of $160,0000.9. Châteaux Lafite-Rothschild 1869
Number 9 on our countdown is also in the alcoholic beverage category. Tree bottles of Châteaux Lafite-Rothschild 1869 were sold this year for the record amount of $232,692 a bottle. The auction took place in Hong Kong this October.
8. The Barbie doll
The most expensive Barbie doll in the world was sold this year at an auction in New York for $302,500. The luxurious doll was designed by Stefano Canturi.
7. Daguerreotype Giroux
Daguerreotype Giroux is the first camera produced for commercial purposes. The unique camera was sold for the record sum of $996,499 at an auction in Vienna, exceeding all expectations as a previous camera set a record of only € 576,000 back in 2007.
6. Action Comics #1
The most expensive comic book ever to be sold was one that illustrates Superman’s first appearence. It was published back in 1938 and was sold for the amount of $1.5m. The comic book is quite rare considering the fact that only 100 copies exist and even less are in good shape.
5. BVLGARI Blue Diamond
The BVLGARI Blue Diamond was sold at an auction in New York for the sum of $15.7m. It is a diamond ring with two stones and it features the largest triangular-shaped blue diamond.
4. 1936 Bugatti Atlantic
The rare 1936 Bugatti Atlantic is the most expensive automobile ever to be sold, being purchased for the amount of $30-$40m. Only four such automobiles were produced, and today only two or tree are still functional.
3. Chinese porcelain vase
This Chinese porcelain vase was sold for aproximately $85m exceeding all expectations as it was expected to sell for the more modest amount of £1.2m.
2. Giacometti sculpture
The Giacometti sulpture is a sculpture of a man, a work of Alberto Giacometti. The bronze sculpture was sold at an auction in London for the amount of $104,3 million thus setting the record for the most expensive artwork ever to be sold at an auction up to that time.
1. “Nude, Green Leaves and Bust” by Picasso
The Picasso painting was sold for the jaw-dropping amount of $106,5m at an auction in New York thus breaking the previous record set by the Giacometti sculpture. The painting is 78 year-old and was expected to be sold for $90m tops.
