Not everyone can afford to enjoy a £203,948 ($300,000) lavish party nowadays, but those who can don’t seem to be intimidated by the still fragile state of the global economy. When the rich want to party, they do so without hesitation and often without limits as well. One such example is a young city trader’s latest huge party at the Playground Club in Liverpool, UK.
The trader’s name is Alex Hope, but he calls himself Alex Ace of Spades, which probably explains the two £4,500 bottles of Ace of Spades Brut champagne, the forty £500 standard bottles of Ace of Spades, and one £24,000 bottle of Spades champagne. Other expensive drinks at the event were two bottles of Grey Goose, each holding 4.5 liters of vodka and costing £2,000. The showstopper, however, was a huge 30-liter bottle of Nebuchadnezzar of Armand de Brignac Midas bubbly, priced at a whopping £125,000 (about $200,000)!
The club had to place a special pre-order for the huge bottle, as it does not have such a lavish drink on the menu. After it was delivered “with a lot of protection”, as the club’s manager Vasco Carealho declared, the champagne was kept in a special refrigerator until the night of the party. Hope’s wish was a surprise for the club, but the manager was pleased to honor the order.
When the moment came to bring out the huge bottle, Playground’s boss, George Panayiotou, asked the DJ to play Strauss’ Also Sprach Zarathustra, the opening melody in the film 2001: A Space Odyssey. The entrance was memorable, as two employees of the club had to carry the 99lb bottle to its buyer.
