2013 Ford Shelby GT500 Convertible for SVT’s 20th Anniversary

Ford’s highest performance vehicles are brought to life by the company’s Special Vehicle Team (SVT), a division that has been creating outstanding Fords since 1992. Twenty years ago, Ford impressed everybody at the 1992 Chicago Auto Show by unveiling the 1993 SVT Mustang Cobra.

Now the American company is ready to leave us all in awe at their outstanding anniversary creation: the 2013 Ford Shelby GT500 Convertible. The car is (obviously) making its debut at this year’s Chicago Auto Show, celebrating SVT’s two decades of expertise.

SVT’s first creation ever featured a 5.0-liter V8 capable of 235 horsepower, which was pretty awesome back then. Today though, the division impresses with far more intimidating vehicles, and the anniversary Shelby is the living proof of that. It flaunts 650 horsepower and 600 pound-feet of torque coming out of a 5.8-liter V8. The speed is still electronically limited to 155 mph for safety purposes.

The car is equipped with electronic adjustable dampers, massive brake disks and six-piston Brembo calipers, a carbon fiber driveshaft, a new transmission, a new axle and a new clutch. Options include the Bilstein setup and a Track Pack with differential cooler, external oil cooler, and transmission cooler.
